Right after earning my degree in Architectural Engineering Technology, I hit the ground running. I started out working directly for a contractor, creating custom homes in a high-end subdivisions. From there, I expanded my focus, collaborating with multiple contractors, a local architect, and private clients. Over the years, I've designed everything from highly efficient 1,000-square-foot homes to sprawling 10,000-square-foot luxury estates.
After a hiatus from the industry starting in 2005, my passion for architecture pulled me back. I designed and co-contracted my own highly customized home, which reinforced my core design philosophy: luxury, high ceilings, and grand living do not require a massive footprint.
Today, I run Garrard Designs in the Dallas area as a strictly boutique, one-man studio. By intentionally limiting the number of projects I take on each year, I guarantee my absolute focus and commitment to your space. Whether I am fleshing out a complex custom kitchen and bath or designing a right-sized family home, I work directly with you, your interior designer, and your contractor. My exact plans and 3D models call out every single detail for the tradespeople, bridging the gap between our vision and the final build so zero issues arise on-site.

Jim Garrard - Chef Designer & Founder

Situated right on the banks of the Mississippi River, this is an early 2000s custom home where I worked one-on-one with the contractor to ensure flawless execution.

A luxury residence I designed for a client in the New Orleans area during the early 2000s.

My personal home, designed and built in 2020. Working alongside a general contractor friend, I handled a lot of the heavy lifting and all of the precise detail work myself, proving that true luxury doesn't require a massive footprint.
